Republican J.D. Vance thanks supporters upon his U.S. Senate victory on Election Night, Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022.

A senator from Ohio is warning voters that some Republicans in the Senate have gone along with Democrats to set up a plan to force President Donald Trump, if he is elected in the fall, to continue sending billions of American tax dollars to Ukraine.

Worse yet, explains Sen. J.D. Vance, the schemes could be interpreted to be used as impeachment fodder should Trump, as he has suggested, be able to resolve that conflict and see hostilities end.

Vance, in an article posted at The American Conservative, explains GOP members were working on a plan to secure the border and provide aid to Ukraine and Israel.

However, the border section turned out to be unacceptable, so Republicans simply tossed the border security and moved ahead on funding Ukraine.

And they made that mandatory.

"It gets worse. Back in 2019, Democrats articulated a novel theory of impeachment, based on Trump’s refusal to spend money from the USAI—Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative. Five years after impeaching Trump for refusing to spend money on Ukraine, they have drafted a new law that again requires Trump to spend money on Ukraine. If he negotiates an end to the war, as he has promised to do, they will undoubtedly argue that he has broken the law. We are nearly a year away from an election that could give Trump the presidency, and Ukraine-obsessive Republicans have already given the Democrats a predicate to impeach him," Vance warned.

An article at The Gateway Pundit addressed the same issue, and said, "President Trump was wrongfully impeached by the partisan Pelosi-led House of Representatives on December 18, 2019! At the core of the impeachment was a pause on funds appropriated to Ukraine: …$391 million in security assistance: $250 million through the Department of Defense’s (DOD) Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative and $141 million through the State Department’s Foreign Military Financing program.

"The false argument put forward by Democrats was/is as follows: as President Trump had allegedly paused these funds because he wished to see the corrupt nexus between the Biden family and Ukraine investigated, President Trump had abused his power, with the aim of interfering with the U.S. presidential election."

The Gateway Pundit continued, "Page 425 of the Committee Report on the first impeachment states: 'The President froze military assistance to Ukraine against U.S. national security interests and over the objections of career experts.' The impeachment inquiry report states, 'The President did so despite the longstanding bipartisan support of Congress, uniform support across federal departments and agencies for the provision to Ukraine of the military assistance, and his obligations under the Impoundment Control Act.'

"The Supplemental Impeachment Time Bomb: President Trump has said, in regard to the war in Ukraine, 'We got to get that war settled and I’ll get it settled.' He has stated that he would resolve the war in 24 hours.”

The report noted that senators want to allocate money to the same accounts now over which Democrats claimed the right to impeach Trump then.

"These funds expire on September 30, 2025 nearly a year into the possible second term of President Trump. … If President Trump were to withdraw from or pause financial support for the war in Ukraine in order to bring the conflict to a peaceful conclusion, 'over the objections of career experts,' it would amount to the same fake violation of budget law from the first impeachment, under markedly similar facts and circumstances."

The report said not only would Democrats jump at another impeachment scheme, "The Washington Post has reported that tying President Trump’s hands on foreign policy is very much top of mind for Biden administration officials, who are openly boasting about their plans."

Vance said the border security provisions fell apart because they would have "done little to secure the border in the future, would have been a massive political gift to the Democrats, and would constrain Trump’s border enforcement if he was ever elected president."

In fact, Joe Biden opened the southern border when he took office and repeatedly has fought states in court and elsewhere, to keep it open to millions of illegal aliens. Critics of the schemes contend it is a plan to move millions of people into the country and turn them into Democrat voters to secure a perpetual one-party rule in America.

President Trump on Monday pushed a fight over the immunity he held – or did not hold – as president to the U.S. Supreme Court.

A leftist prosecutor has claimed he engaged in election interference during the 2020 election, and Trump has charged that his comments and actions were protected by presidential immunity.

A lower court disagreed with him, setting up Trump's appeal to the Supremes.

The Washington Examiner explained that prosecutor Jack Smith has been pushing for a trial as soon as possible, in an apparent attempt to obtain a "conviction" before the presidential election in the fall.

But there is no timetable for the high court to act.

The report noted, "The Supreme Court’s options could include rejecting Trump’s emergency appeal, which would allow U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan to restart the trial proceedings in Washington’s federal court. The trial was initially slated to begin in early March. Justices on the high court could also extend that delay while they hear arguments on the immunity dispute. Given the unprecedented nature of the request, some legal experts have suggested the Supreme Court may not want to give the appeals court the last word over the dispute, even if the nine-member bench ultimately comes to a similar conclusion on Trump’s presidential immunity argument."

If the justices do take the case, arguments and a ruling aren't even on the calendar.

Trump's lawyers have charged that Smith is following a partisan agenda to hold a trial while Trump is campaigning for president.

It's the second Trump-related case that could come before the court. Last week the justices heard arguments in a decision by Colorado's all-Democrat state Supreme Court to take Trump's name off the 2024 ballot, apparently concluding in their own minds and without a conviction, that Trump was guilty of "insurrection."

The report explained the high court already has held that presidents are immune from civil liability for their official acts, and this question is whether there's immunity if prosecutors allege criminal acts.

The Washington case being brought by Smith is one of four Trump is facing. Another was brought by Smith in Florida over the papers he apparently kept from his presidency and a state claim of organized crime over his comments about the 2020 election.

The documents case now undoubtedly will be the subject of motions, as a special counsel just concluded that Joe Biden likely violated federal law by keeping such documents from his years as senator and vice president, but he wouldn't be charged because of his diminished mental capabilities.

The difference with the Trump case is that Biden never had the authority to declassify those documents while Trump, as president, did. Further, Biden has established a record in recent years of lots of mental blunders, flubs and gaffes, displaying for the public a deterioration in his grasp of ordinary events, including how to get off a stage.

And he's made multiple comments that he's had talks with people who already are dead.

Democrats erupted in rage when special counsel Robert Hur announced that Joe Biden likely broke the law by taking and keeping classified documents from his days as senator, then vice prsident, but he wasn't going to recommend charges because of his diminished mental capacity.

They responded with claims that was just wrong, that the comments were out of line, that Hur hasn't diagnosed Biden and much more.

Republicans responded with a video, of Biden himself, giving evidence to support Hur's comments.

RNS Research said, "Here are five straight minutes that show exactly why the special counsel noted Biden's diminished mental fitness ... ."

The comments at Off the Press were devastating:

"There are a lot of questions surrounding Biden’s cognitive health following last week’s damning special counsel report. Biden loves to say 'watch me,' so the RNC put together five straight minutes doing exactly that," the report said.

"It’s not hard to see why the special counsel noted Biden’s diminished faculties, which have been on display for the world to see since the day he took office. And it has only gone downhill from there," the report said.

"In recent weeks, Biden has confused the leaders of France and Germany (twice in one day), referred to Egypt as Mexico, confused 'blue states' with 'green states,' falsely claimed he 'started a civil rights movement,' and thought he took a photo with a congresswoman who wasn’t there. Americans are rightly concerned. According to new polling over the weekend, 86 percent of Americans believe Biden lacks the vitality and acuity for a second term…"

"He’s not playing with a full deck."

Daily Caller News Foundation had reported only a few weeks earlier on the RNC's video of Biden's gaffes.

At the time, RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said, "America and our allies are less safe because no one respects Joe Biden. In three years, the Taliban took over Afghanistan, Russia invaded Ukraine, and Hamas terrorists attacked Israel. Now, eight Americans remain held hostage, Israel is still at war, and our president is dazed and confused. Biden’s weakness has emboldened our enemies, and four more years of failed leadership would only invite further chaos."

Age discrimination?

Leaders of America's Democrat Party have established a history of criticizing Republicans who are in their 70s for being "too old" to be president, even while continuing to promote Joe Biden, now 81, as being competent.

It's a huge issue in the 2024 election because after Biden repeatedly has exhibited failing mental capacity in public, calling on dead people and recalling conversations with them, mixing up the names of his grandchildren, repeatedly telling stories that simply could not have happened, it got worse.

WND reported on a report from special counsel Robert Hur, who was tasked with reviewing the hundreds and hundreds of classified documents Biden had stashed in his homes, offices, even garage.

Get the hottest, most important news stories on the Internet – delivered FREE to your inbox as soon as they break! Take just 30 seconds and sign up for WND's Email News Alerts!

The documents were from his years as senator and vice president, and his decision to keep those documents could have produced criminal charges.

However, Hur recommended against it because Biden is an elderly man with a failing memory. He reported Biden was unable to recall the years he was vice president or when his son died.

Hur's report found that there was evidence that Biden committed federal crimes with his handling of classified documents, including when he stored them in his garage in a broken-apart box next to a collectible car.

Hur found Biden's diminished mental capacity likely would cause sympathy in a jury who might not convict on those grounds.

It was the Daily Caller that reported Biden's White House, "behind the scenes," put pressure on Hur to take out those conclusions.

Now the Washington Examiner reports Democrats launched attacks on Ronald Reagan, Bob Dole and John McCain while they were candidates simply because of their age.

But they were all in their early 70s when they were targeted by Democrats, the report said.

"Then-President Ronald Reagan, 73, was inundated with questions about his age in his 1984 reelection campaign, specifically after his first debate with Democratic nominee Walter Mondale, 56. During the first debate, Reagan had a lackluster performance, with Democrats saying he 'looked tired' on the stage. At the second debate between him and Mondale, Reagan was directly asked about his age and he delivered a famous line that ended doubts about his age for the campaign," the report explained.

Reagan's quip was, "I want you to know that also I will not make age an issue of this campaign. I am not going to exploit, for political purposes, my opponent’s youth and inexperience."

Then there was Bob Dole, who was 73 when Bill Clinton made an issue of age in the 1996 campaign.

Legacy media outlets, long working in support of Democrats, asked, "Is Dole too old for the job?"

And, the report said, McCain was only 72 when "Democrats made age a significant factor in the 2008 election, creating a juxtaposition between then-Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL), 47, and then-Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), 72, with the idea Obama was the candidate of change."

If all of the existing headaches for those pushing expensive electric vehicles on resisting American consumers could vanish, there's still a big one that may have no ready solution.

Already, it appears the U.S. could end up dependent on unfriendly nations for materials for all those batteries. Then there's the fact that the nation's grid simply can't support all that recharging – California already has been sending out advisories for owners not to charge. And then there's the limited range, extended recharging times, both worsened by bad weather.

But now a report in the Washington Times explains that those batteries are heavy, and EVs can weight up to 50% more than internal combustion motor vehicles.

Get the hottest, most important news stories on the Internet – delivered FREE to your inbox as soon as they break! Take just 30 seconds and sign up for WND's Email News Alerts!

And that weight damages roads, bridges and parking garages, with those vehicles easily plowing through safety guardrails while posing a higher danger to other drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists traveling the same routes.

"The problems associated with EVs are poised to grow as more consumers purchase the cars under the Biden administration’s plan to eliminate gas-powered vehicles and the tailpipe emissions that come with them," the report explained.

It explained engineers writing recently for Structure Magazine suggested construction companies, and building codes, need to make accommodation for the higher weight.

Parking garages, they said, should be redesigned to hold more weight.

That's because some hold hundreds of vehicles, and just one EV. A Ford truck, weighs in at 8,240 pounds, nearly a ton more than the gas-powered version of the same pickup.

"Significantly increasing passenger vehicle weights combined with recently reduced structural design requirements will result in reduced factors of safety and increased maintenance and repair costs for parking structures," the engineers wrote. "There are many cases of parking structure failures, and the growing demand for EVs will only increase the probability of failure."

Then there are those guardrails, installed to minimize damage when traffic goes awry.

They are installed between lanes for traffic moving opposite directions, between lanes and edge drop-offs and more.

That concern comes out of a procedure at a test facility in Nebraska, where examiners took a 3.6-ton Rivian R1 and sent it into a metal guardrail at 62 mph, first headon, then at an angle.

Both times it "ripped through" the guardrail and continued into what would have been lanes for oncoming traffic, the report revealed.

The conclusion was simple: making vehicles much heavier means "a lot more force" is required to redirect the vehicle.

University of Nebraska professor Cody Stolle, told the Times, "We found these guardrail systems don’t have great compatibility with these [electric] vehicles yet."

The heavier vehicles also could cause more damage to other vehicles in collisions.

The report said an insurance institute expert confirmed the weight provides more protection to those inside the EV, but at the expense of anyone in another vehicle involved in an accident.

Joe Biden has insisted over and over that consumers should be buying the much more expensive and often less reliable electric cars the government programs subsidize.

The weight differences are significant. The report said the Tesla Model Y is more than 4,400 pounds while the similar size gas-powered Honda Accord is 3,300. Kia makes multiple SUVs, with the gas model weighting 3,900 pounds and the EV unit nearly 6,500.

Residential roads already are not engineered to handle the heavy weight on highways, and the lifespan of bridges could be reduced with much heavier traffic, the report said.

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., recently said, "EVs are typically much heavier compared to similarly sized, gas-powered vehicles, which will put additional strain on America’s transportation infrastructure. The American Society of Civil Engineers warns that an increase in EVs could substantially reduce the lifespan of roads and bridges, necessitating further investment in infrastructure."

Back before World War II there were multiple small, regional conflicts that had developed.

Eventually they merged.

And that is exactly what is developing now, according to an expert on international events, and Joe Biden is allowing it.

"Biden has opened the floodgates of Hell. Although nothing is inevitable, we are fast approaching the point where, as a practical matter, he will not be able to stop China and Russia, directly and through proxies, from merging existing conflicts and turning them into the next global war," charged Gordon Chang, an expert on China, in a column at The Gatestone Institute.

Get the hottest, most important news stories on the Internet – delivered FREE to your inbox as soon as they break! Take just 30 seconds and sign up for WND's Email News Alerts!

He pointed out that, "Biden's foreign policy has collapsed. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan effectively admitted that to CNN's Dana Bash on February 4."

Bash said, "You have said now a couple times on this show and you have said this many times before that the administration is trying to prevent this from spreading into a regional conflict."

Then she listed conflict locations and said, "My colleague Peter Bergen smartly pointed out that this conflict involves 10 countries, at least four major terrorist groups, so isn't this already a regional conflict?"

Sullivan responded, "Well, Dana, what I would say is that these are distinct but related challenges. … For example, what's happening in the Red Sea is obviously to a certain extent triggered by what's happening in Gaza, but it's not the same thing. The Houthis aren't just hitting ships related to Israel; they're hitting a lot of different ships from a lot of different countries. And so we are trying to deal with the challenge to freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. That is a distinct challenge. The militia groups in Iraq and Syria are hitting our forces. We're responding. And then of course Israel is dealing both with the challenge of Hamas in Gaza and the threat from Hezbollah in the north."

Chang explained, "Sullivan, although not his intention, confirmed the war in Gaza has already extended beyond that troubled strip. The situation is actually worse than he let on. Hamas leaders have fled Qatar and are now hiding out in Qatari diplomatic missions in Morocco, where they are unwanted by the King, and in Algeria, where they are welcomed by the regime."

He said that means Iran effectively has operatives at the west end of the Mediterranean, in line with its threats to close down shipping there, as it already has in the Red Sea.

And Hamas operatives now "have also fled Qatar for Turkey, which controls access to the Black Sea, and Lebanon."

The sequence has been: "Biden's Afghanistan debacle of August 2021 was quickly followed by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, by China's and Russia's fueling insurgencies in North Africa, and by Iran's attacks on Israel from Gaza and the Golan Heights."

He noted Jonathan Bass, of InfraGlobal Partners, charged, "Blood now soaks the soil of three continents. More will be spilled. Aggressors are now on killing sprees."

Chang said Biden's policies are failing because Biden believes it is possible to integrate "virtually all nations into the rules-based international system."

But he said China and Russia already do not respect sovereignty of other states.

That means, "Beijing and Moscow do not accept the assumptions that have defined the world since the Peace of Westphalia of 1648, which established the current international system. Chinese and Russian leaders do not agree as to what should replace Westphalia, but they are nonetheless working together to bring it down," he said.

That leaves Biden "trying to work" with China while Xi Jinping "believes the United States is at most a Chinese colony."

Biden's also is trying to "manage" the Russia-Ukraine war. And he's hunting for "compromise" in the Middle East.

"He should realize that there can be no accommodation with regimes that either seek the destruction of the United States—China and Iran, for instance—or regimes helping such enemies—most notably Russia. "

Famed evangelist Franklin Graham has delivered a stunning verdict about the Democrats' agenda, pushed by Joe Biden ever since he took office, to keep America's southern border open for illegal aliens.

Graham, on social media, cited a comment from Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., who stated his party chooses illegal aliens to "care about most."

Charged Graham, who serves as chief of the worldwide ministry Samaritan's Purse, "Senator Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, made a shocking statement to MSNBC when he said that undocumented immigrants are the ones they 'care about most.'"

"Wow. These are people who have broken the law and come into this country illegally—and they are being given millions of dollars in benefits that are being taken away from legal, bonafide citizens of this country. This reveals the evil intent of the Democratic party.

"Bottom line: it’s about buying votes with government money! They want to give them benefits, then they will want to give them ID’s, and then the next step will be citizenship—so they can vote. They want to have the votes of the millions of people they have allowed into this country illegally, opening the door to chaos. It’s about the desperate struggle to keep these leftist elitists in power for generations to come.

"Wake up America—there’s an election coming!"

A Fox News report, in fact, confirmed Murphy said his party's push for a path to citizenship in border legislation has failed the people they "care about most" in this country, "undocumented Americans."

"Well, I mean, Chris, that’s been a failed play for 20 years. So you are right that that has been the Democratic strategy for 30 years, maybe, and it has failed to deliver for the people we care about most, the undocumented Americans that are in this country," the senator charged.

Murphy said, "This is also not 2013 any longer, when we ran that play last. Back then, there were a couple hundred people showing up every day applying for asylum. Today, on some days, there are 8,000. And the reality is that the bulk of this country does not think that’s right or sustainable and wants us to change the reality at the border."

He said the Democrats' plan featured a right to representation and early work permits for illegals, but the GOP has opposed the special provisions.

Republicans said the bill simply didn't solve Biden's border crisis.

After court victories in North Carolina, Texas and Pennsylvania in fights over foreigners voting in America, the Public Interest Legal Foundation has sued in California.

The leftists there allegedly have refused to release records revealing foreign nationals who are registered – and could vote – in the state.

"For more than four months, we have been trying to obtain records about foreign nationals getting on the voter roll," said PILF President, J. Christian Adams.

"Alameda County’s lack of transparency and utter disrespect for federal law is particularly alarming as we enter a presidential election year. The public has a right to inspect election records, including these important records that reveal mistakes and errors by election officials."

PILF explained that for more than a decade it has reviewed government records of "noncitizen voter cancellation reports generated by local election officials."

"These studies were carried out in places like Arizona, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Michigan, Nevada, California, Texas, and sanctuary cities across the nation. PILF has brought and won federal trial and appellate court cases in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Texas to secure access to records relating to foreign nationals registering and voting," the organization reported.

The new case is against Timothy Dupuis, the registrar of voters for Alameda County, who allegedly has violated the National Voter Registration Act.

The foundation's case calls for revealing "the number of voter registration records canceled because the registrant did not satisfy the citizenship requirements for voter registration; and

"Records related to each cancellation including copies of each registrant’s voter registration application, voter registration record, voting history, and related correspondence sent or received by the Registrar’s Office."

Just a few months back the foundation notified Alameda officials they were in violation of the federal law.

The case seeks a declaratory judgment and injunctive relief.

The filing in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California explains that "Citizenship Is a requirement for Voter Registration in California."

"As part of his voter list maintenance duties, Defendant Dupuis evaluates eligibility for voter registration including citizenship, and must reject voter registrations and cancel any registration record if the registrant does not meet these eligibility requirements," the complaint explains.

The federal law also requires that records be public, and that is the failure the legal filing pursues.

"Defendant is required to 'maintain for at least 2 years and shall make available for public inspection and, where available, photocopying at a reasonable cost, all records concerning the implementation of programs and activities conducted for the purpose of ensuring the accuracy and currency of official lists of eligible voters," the complaint says.

"When Defendant Dupuis evaluates and/or investigates whether a registrant meets the state’s qualifications for registration and voting, including citizenship, he engages in an activity or program within the Public Disclosure Provisions scope."

America's lucrative abortion industry has developed a two-chemical abortion pill process for do-it-yourself abortions, and while there are documented dangers to women, the business makes money.

So anything that undermines the messaging used to promote the process is in a bull's-eye for pro-abortion advocates and officials.

Especially, information about a reversal process that often allows women who have started the procedure by taking the first pill to save their babies by taking progesterone.

And that is a problem for California Attorney General Rob Bonta.

He's suing several organizations that provide information about that very abortion pill reversal process.

And they are asking a California Superior Court to throw the case out.

Bonta has sued Heartbeat International and RealOptions Obria Medical Clinics over their advocacy for "Abortion Pill Reversal," the medical intervention provided to women who decide to reverse their in-progress chemical abortions, " according to officials with the Thomas More Society.

According to the legal team, "Heartbeat International, an international network of thousands of pregnancy centers, provides referrals to medical providers for women who are seeking to reverse their chemical abortions through its Abortion Pill Rescue® Network, which is the target of Bonta’s lawsuit, along with the RealOptions pregnancy centers in California, which provide Abortion Pill Reversal services."

"Women undergoing chemical abortions deserve the truth: even after starting a chemical abortion, they may still be able to save their babies," said attorney Peter Breen, Thomas More Society head of litigation.

"California and its Attorney General Rob Bonta are illegally and unconstitutionally seeking to rip away ‘choice’ from women in dire need by attacking pregnancy help ministries like Heartbeat and RealOptions, to shut down their promotion of Abortion Pill Reversal. Abortion Pill Reversal provides real hope for women who want to stop their abortions and continue their pregnancies."

Heartbeat International President Jor-El Godsey added, "California should be more concerned with helping women who desperately want to continue their pregnancy. Targeting women’s opportunity to reverse their abortion is an obvious act of misusing the goodwill of taxpayer funding to shill for Big Abortion."

Bonta has been in court demanding an injunction against the pro-life information.

"Despite overwhelming evidence of Abortion Pill Reversal services’ safety and effectiveness, this lawsuit makes outrageously false claims against Heartbeat International and RealOptions," said Paul Jonna, a lawyer on the case.

"Attorney General Bonta’s lawsuit aims to hide life-saving information from women regarding Abortion Pill Reversal. This is a desperate attempt by Bonta to eliminate any competition to the well-funded abortion lobby with which he has proudly partnered throughout his political career."

Among issues to be resolved is the free speech issue, that people have a constitutional right to share their opinions and information. But California in the past has simply ignored that freedom, previously ruling that counselors could tell kids to move into the LGBT lifestyles, but were banned from counseling them how to live lives in the gender in which they were born.

For years, Democrats, joined by their allies in the media, have trumpeted the idea that of course President Donald Trump cannot run for president in 2024 because he's an "insurrectionist."

That talking point came about because they claim, essentially without foundation, that the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol was an actual insurrection.

What it was was a protest that turned into a riot by those who distrusted the suspect results of the 2020 vote count, where Joe Biden suddenly and without explanation in the middle of the night suddenly took the vote lead in several swing states at the same time.

The evidence also now documents several major pro-Biden undue influences on the election, including the FBI's decision to interfere and Mark Zuckerberg's decision to hand out $400 million that essentially promoted Biden.

The Jan. 6 event, the leftists claim, was  an attempt to overthrow an existing government, take over the economy, take over the military, take over foreign relations, install all new leaders, and such.

Actually, there was no such organization or coordination, and the charges against the hundreds who rioted largely have been obstructing and trespassing.

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley, a constitutional expert who has testified before Congress and even represented members, said that ideology has became, because of the coordination of Democrats and the media, an "unassailable" opinion.

But it was left shaken by the fact that virtually all members of the Supreme Court, evevn the leftists there, expressed doubts about it during a hearing on a Colorado case.

There, four out of seven Democrats on a state Supreme Court decided, on their own and without documentation of any insurrection charges or conviction, that Trump was guilty of insurrection and, under the 14th Amendment, should be removed from the ballot.

Turley is suggesting that the Democrats' "unassailable" opinion now could face a unanimous rejection at the high court.

He pointed out the "deep division in the country and rage of many advocates."

The last time such a division arose was in 2000, when George W. Bush beat Al Gore.

"However, unlike 2000, the court itself appears virtually unanimous in this case. The biggest difference is not the court but the coverage," he said.

"The Trump case exposed the erosion of legal coverage in the media. For millions of Americans, the cold reception of all of the justices to the novel theory under the 14th Amendment came as a surprise. Networks and newspapers have been featuring experts who assured the public that this theory was well-based and disqualification well-established. They only barrier, they insisted, was the blind partisanship of the six conservative justices on the court," he explained.

He said the high court this week provided a "fair hearing" in the battle.

Not so the coverage.

"Looking back at the coverage, most legacy media called upon the same legal experts who have previously endorsed virtually every claim made against Trump. They predictably declared Trump as clearly disqualified despite the fact that this theory has never been embraced by the federal courts.

"Figures like federal court Judge J. Michael Luttig who called these arguments against disqualification as 'revealing, fatuous, and politically and constitutionally cynical.' Other insisted that the argument that the provision might not apply to presidents as 'absurd.'"

He said many media "turned to Professor Laurence Tribe" … "who assured the public that the theory was 'unassailable.'"

He noted, "What was most troubling is the repeated attacks on the court by legal experts who suggested that the only thing keeping Trump on the ballot was the bias of conservative justices. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D. Md.) declared 'This is their opportunity to behave like real Supreme Court justices.'"

Turley noted, "We will have to wait for the final opinion but most of us are predicting a reversal of Colorado and the possibility of a unanimous or near unanimous decision. The question is whether such a result will change how media outlets frame these disputes in the future. After weeks of portraying the opposition as only resting with the right of the court, the coverage had a weird disjointed feel as some of the same commentators reported that the justices appeared uniformly unconvinced by this 'unassailable' theory."
